Theme Amsterdam Light Festival

The organization of the Amsterdam Light Festival introduces a new theme every edition. The selected artists have to base their work on this theme. The theme of the Amsterdam Light Festival 2019 – 2020 is, Disrupt!. Disruption is not only conflict and chaos, but can also give positive and sometimes essential impetus to change. Artists from home and abroad show their interpretation of disruption this year and use light to be disruptive and to give us a new impulse.

Each edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival artworks are selected by a panel of judges. Through a worldwide Call for Concepts, artists from all over the world were asked to submit new ideas for the festival. In total there are over 19 light artworks from selected artists, designers and architects from all over the world. They have been giving the special task to relieve the city of Amsterdam artfully.
