The canal cruise was perfect, the captin come guide gave us headphones to listen in our own language. The riverboat was clean and tidy, easy to walk on and off, it was a nice day and we got some beautiful pictures!! A great end to a fantastic tourist holiday!!
We did the early evening cruise to see the lights of the city. Easy to get tickets by turning up and allocated the next cruise. There is an audio link that you can use, but we decided to just sit outside and watch the views. An hour cruise which was interesting and pretty.
We had an hour cruise around the canals in Amsterdam and learnt a lot whilst doing it. We really enjoyed every second. My five year old didn’t want to get off. The captain was also very knowledgeable.
This is a must do on your list of things to do while visiting Amsterdam. It takes you through areas that you may not be able to walk to. The captain points out things of interest and tells the story behind it.
Partenza vicino ala stazione centrale. Durata circa un ora. Visita dei canali principali di Amsterdam. Da provare
We had a really lovely time on the one-hour canal cruise. Our captain was very lovely and cracked a good few jokes throughout the tour. The GPS guided tour via the headphones was a fab idea and there were so many language options available which was a really pleasant surprise. We learned so much about the history of the city and the tour even helped us to find places to visit again in further detail after the tour. The price was extremely reasonable considering the excellent experience we got, and our boat even left a little early which was nice. All in all, we would definitely recommend it!
We really enjoyed it. We show I I amsterdam cards at the ticket office ans were on a boat and on our way within 10 minutes. Our captain (Tony I believe was his name) was lovely ,cheerful and very knowledge of the area, he also had 2 traniees with him and they were also lovely. The facilties were clean. If I hadn't have had the I amsterdam card I would have still paid what the price was (which I think is reasonable).
1st time in Amsterdam and loved it Booked on the Lovers Canal cruise early in the morning to get a feel for the city and to get our bearings The tour showed the highlights of the city and the comentry was good
sitting backward is really annoying... Except that I think it is very nice and the captain was a nice guy, he was really funny, making jokes.
Booked through Get Your Guide literally 20 mins before boarding. They let us join a boat that was boarding as soon as we got there, which was great, no standing around as they weren’t so busy. We took a daytime trip and glad we did. Maybe evening cruises would be better in warmer months with open boats. The boat was modern, clean and warm and no condensation at all during any part of our cruise. The headphones were included and the audio commentary was interesting. The captain also added bits and pieces of extra info which was appreciated. It was a great introduction to the canals of Amsterdam as we decided to do this trip literally an hour after arriving in Amsterdam. It helped us with our bearings and with general historical info about the city. The reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that we seemed to stay on one canal, no museums seen, no Anne Frank house, nothing like that, which was a shame as lots of tourists probably visit these places afterwards. Maybe the canal boat starting from the museums area take that route? We took the one from the station. There are lots of canal boat companies, but we were more than happy with Lovers as their boats appear a lot more modern than many others we saw. I would definitely recommend the cruise and my teenage daughter said it was one of the nicest things we did when in Amsterdam.
A amazing tour with some great canal boat skills performed and a great host. This tour is very much for couples and being alone I felt a little out of place.
Done the open boat tour during the summer. A great way to see the city and the audio guide gave plenty of information along the way. Extremely relaxing to the point I almost fell asleep half way around. Would definitely do the tour again if I’m back in Amsterdam
Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Although it rained, I still enjoyed the tour. The only complaint was the audio was difficult to hear at times.
Nice relaxing hour around the canals. Duco (sorry if I have not got the name correct) was informative with history and fun facts. Would recommend.
It was educational, slowed down at the right places. The pilot was polite and explained well- was fun and energetic.
Eine schöne Erfahrung also!
Sehr interessantes, toll gestaltetes Museum.
Sehr sehenswerte Ausstellung! Mehr Besucher sind aber nicht sinnvoll.
A fabulous museum! Please make sure you purchase tickets in advance and include the audio tour. The audio tour provides so much more information than just reading about the art!
If you only have time to visit one attraction in Amsterdam, make sure it’s the Van Gogh museum. Yes, it’s not cheap but how do you put a price on seeing so many of his paintings up close? I recommend the audio tour which was very informative, I learned a lot about his life and the support he received from his brother Theo, and the role his sister-in-law, Johanna played in promoting his work. Allow at least two hours for your visit. Thoroughly recommended and I look forward to going back!
We ere here a few years ago. This museum was fantastic then and was equally amazing today. You mustn’t visit Amsterdam and not make time for the Van Gogh museum.
Very educational and well done. The audio guide is informative and is well articulated. The layout is nice and we didn’t have too much crowding for as busy as it was. They have a large variety of his pieces as well as other artists.
I had always wanted to visit the Van Gogh Museum and I'm glad I did. However, there are a few things that could be improved. Although under 18s go free, €24, and soon to be 25, is a bit steep for what is on offer. What's more, there doesn't appear to be enough material to enlighten younger visitors to the significance of Van Gogh's art. Everything is very much adult-oriented. The audio guides are useful, but you will frequently find yourself aimlessly wandering about as the signage and audio directions are somewhat confusing. A few videos in a film theatre explaining Van Gogh's life and work would be helpful, especially as nowadays most information is communicated visually online. More could have been said on Van Gogh's artistic influences, to what extent his mental struggles affected his artistic eye and how the historical context of the time played its part. More could also have been said regarding Van Gogh's death and the theory of accidental homicide, if merely to debunk it. Nice to have underlined the role of Joanna, Vincent's sister-in-law, in making sure that Van Gogh's work became known to the general public. Several of Van Gogh's greatest works are, of course, to be found in other art galleries, but, despite the above caveats, a visit to the Van Gogh museum is nevertheless worthwhile.
Outstanding! The museum was very well laid out and we paid for the audio tour, which was well worth it. The opportunity to see his beautiful art up close was a once in a lifetime experience. There were many other artists works displayed as well, Monet and Gauguin. Amazing!
Well worth a visit and be sure to book in advance. You get a very up close and personal view of the art, can examine the brush strokes and colors at your leisure and in minute detail if you would like. Museum is well laid out and very organized. Audio guide not really worth the purchase as focus is only on a few things in the audio guide, can get more from reading the placards near the paintings. A nice little gift shop is there too. Be sure you can navigate stairs as there is one elevator that takes a bit of time and should be reserved for strollers and those with mobility issues.
So well setup, so interesting. It explains very well the context in which the art was produced. the different paintings available are very well lit and displayed. Definitely a pleasure to visit. Don’t miss it!
Do not buy your tickets on here. Go directly to the website!! The tickets are on their site for a fraction of the price. Do not get scammed like me.
The Van Gogh Museum was fantastic. The history behind Van Gogh’s life is presented brilliantly, clear, engaging, and easy to follow. The museum also has a great collection of his work, giving you a real sense of his artistic journey and development. It’s a must visit in Amsterdam for anyone interested in art or history.
Whether art expert, fan, or newbie, this museum does a great job of telling Van Gogh’s life and art. It features a broad cross section of his 2000 plus works and brings to life a complicated man who many remember only for cutting off an ear. The museum is modern, large, and handles its big (although limited) crowds well. Be sure to but your ticket well in advance and maybe choose your timed entry for an off time (very early, late, non-weekend). Bookstore, restaurant, cafes, free bag check, audio guides, restrooms.
Great museum so many great works on veiw and not just van gogh. Pick your times wisely as gets busy. Don't take big bags with you.
Visited mid week, mid day. Purchased tickets online the evening before. Museum was sold out and was busy, but manageable. Did have to queue to see some of the main paintings. For some might be too busy so earliest slot in day might be preferable. we didn't mind. Lockers were free and very useful. I'd recommend the audiotour. it is affordable and informative. When you get the device there is a choice of highlights, full or extended. Realised the extended option was the best and not very long. we were finished within 1.5 hrs. Loved it!
A wonderful space dedicated to one of the greatest artists of all time. I appreciated the curation here and the way Van Gogh’s life was explored as you explored the collection. Highly recommend for lovers of his work.
Meraviglioso! Shop corner ben forniti e tutto molto gentili.
The Van Gogh Museum had been on my must-visit list for years, and it was absolutely worth the wait. While I’ve always wanted to see beautiful Amsterdam, the main draw for me was this museum. Experiencing so much of Vincent’s work in one place, and following the stages of his life as each section unfolds, was truly unforgettable. After reading reviews, we decided to buy our tickets in advance, and I’m so glad we did. Many people were turned away on the day, as it was fully booked. Although the museum uses timed tickets and was busy, it never felt overwhelming. Although I am a lifelong Vincent fan, I was astounded at just how prolific he was, seeing many pieces I had not even heard of before. Walking through the galleries was an emotional journey for me; learning more about Vincent’s struggles with mental health while standing before the works where he poured out his soul was deeply moving. His ability to capture the raw beauty of nature with such vivid colors and emotion is profoundly inspiring. Some iconic pieces, like 'Sunflowers', naturally drew a crowd which was constant, but people were patient and respectful, everyone was there to absorb and appreciate his genius. Visiting the Van Gogh Museum was a truly special experience, one I will treasure forever.
Frank was an amazing guide. Even though his schedule had been completely changed at the last minute he kept us in the loop via text. I believe this museum experience was enhanced due to the knowledge of our guide and his passion for this museum experience!
A great museum. You learn a lot of Van Gogh’s history. It will probably take you about 1.5-2 hours to go through it. We had 9am tickets. When we showed up, they had a sign saying all tickets were sold out, so book early. They have lockers at the entrance if you don’t want to carry your stuff around. They are free.
We heard about Van Gogh paintings but not about him as an individual. So visiting this museum allows us to better know the painter instead of the paintings alone. What an interesting man and journey for him and his paintings. So tragic how he ended his life though.
Easy access, well laid out, organised well and friendly, helpful staff. Paintings and descriptions were so good and informative.
A magnificent collection of Van Gogh’s work housed in a superb museum. While many of the greatest Van Gogh pictures are in other museums such as the Met and Musee D’Orsay, nothing can compare with the breadth of this collection, and in particular the self portraits and the frenzied output from his final days. The collection survives through the dedication of his sister in law, the foresight of family and the Dutch state, and luck. The museum is big, filled with light and tells the story of Vincent’s life so well. It’s never crowded because ticket sales are strictly controlled so don’t think you can just turn up here - book at least 3 weeks in advance, and months out if you want to be certain. The cafes here are also good, especially the sunflower cake, and of course there’s a massive gift shop.
Great deal! No problems front of the line, walked right in. Being in the middle of a heat wave it was a no hassle moment that the 3 of us appreciated.
We really enjoyed my visit to the Museum in Amsterdam. The layout made it easy to follow Van Gogh’s life and see how his art changed over time. Standing in front of his famous works felt special, and the museum gave a deeper understanding of the person behind the paintings. It was busy, but still worth it. A must-see if you’re in Amsterdam.
Enjoyed the museum visit and saw many famous paintings. We are not big art lovers so didn’t spend long here it only took an hour. Was expensive to get in but it’s a once in a lifetime thing so worthwhile. A modern well laid out museum.
Great audio tour that allowed you to go through at your own pace. Lots of info about the life of Van Gogh and some of the struggles he endured
Moment extraordinaire.
We really enjoyed this museum. It is fascinating to see the timeline of Van Gogh's work and how it changed over the years. There are several floors (they do have an elevator) and there is much to see. They also show artwork of artist's that influeneced Van Gogh and that of artisits he has influenced.
Excellent museum for a special artist. Visited specific museum and we admire the paintings of Van Gogh even if the most famous panting of him is in New York museum. Worth to spend few more euro in order to get the audio guide is order to learn the whole story of the artist. Also there are additional exhibitions in the museum that you can visit.
The museum documents the life and works of Van Gogh. I'd bought a (timed) ticket about ten days in advance for 9:30am and paid extra for the audio guide. You are unlikely to be able to get it on the day, I'd strongly suggest booking in advance direct on the museum's website at least two weeks in advance. I enjoyed the museum and the works they have - some famous ones are scattered around the world. The story can't be told without confronting his mental illness and that was covered reasonably well. Perhaps I missed it but I am surprised there wasn't a discussion and analysis of his vision and in particular whether he suffered from colour blindness. I also didn't notice any discussion of his heavy drinking and effects of wormwood from consumption of absinthe. Johanna van Gogh-Bonger is portrayed as someone solely interested in creating an artistic legacy. Theo Van Gogh's potential syphilis condition is mentioned briefly but I don't remember it being explicit about the obvious likely source. I am not sure on this but after the visit it occurred to me his family may have had too much input in creating a memorial rather than a more neutral museum. The timed tickets allow the museum to control the numbers in the museum. I'd say it was busy but I wouldn't say over-crowded on the Saturday I was there. There's an overly-complicated set of electronic lockers included in the ticket price. Don't forget your code and the locker you use.
